10 Reasons Star Wars Fans NEED To Watch Rebels
3. Grand Admiral Thrawn
Arguably the most stand-out character from Star Wars Legends, Thrawn is the equivalent of Sherlock Holmes in the Star Wars galaxy. A gripping character who really makes you feel like the Rebels could lose.
Being introduced in the show's third season, Thrawn is a thorn in the side of the Ghost crew and the growing Rebel Alliance until the shows finale. Whilst he may not be a force user like The Inquisitors and Vader, Thrawn makes up for this in his intelligence and ability to out smart and counter the Rebels moves.
Lars Mikkelsen's performance is spellbinding, with so many standout scenes. Even though Rebels is an animation, the character commands the screen through his presence and voice. Unlike other Star Wars villains, Thrawn is not simply evil, and is made ever more complex by his creator, Timothy Zahn's, three canon novels.
Thrawn is a character who is committed and does what he must do in order to achieve his goals. He can outsmart his opponents by learning everything he can about them in order to best them.
Over the course of the show, Thrawn very rarely loses. He uses his intelligence and is able to beat the Rebels. Their successes over Thrawn has only ever come about through the incompetence and disobedience of others under his command.
But in the end, how can the Rebels defeat someone as determined and intelligent as Thrawn?
