10 Reasons Television Innovation Is At A Dead-End

3. Where Is The Choice

There is a lot of talk of the upcoming technology with UHD and OLED being hailed the next saviours. But the most cost-effective OLED panels are still five to 10 years away from mass production. Panasonic recently brought an end their quest to beat the Kuro, and in victory declared they were taking the ball and going home. This leaves only Samsung and LG in the Plasma game and whilst both have produced decent sets, none have come close to the Panasonic models. It should be noted that Samsung are advertising for Plasma development staff, so there is the possibility they want to beat even Panasonic€™s achievements, yet production costs and a declining market are a concern. With Plasma being unsuitable for 4k on a mass production scale and OLED being so far away we are left with LCD. Would madame like that backlit or side-lit? We have a fluorescent tube model if madame prefers a little more girth. Whilst some find LCD to be too €˜computerised€™ and others cannot watch Plasma screens without shearing effects, it was good for consumers to have a choice. There may still be a small market for Plasma but it is in decline, and with production limitations and costs it is likely not long for this technology world.

I.T. Consultant, technophile and Doctor Who fan. I like to talk about tech, take films apart and make excuses for Doctor Who's continuity errors. No other show has the power to make me feel like a big kid.
