1. Sherlock
There have been attempts to bring Holmes to a 21st Century audience with some notable failures. Robert Downey Jr made a delicious Holmes on the big screen but Benedict Cumberbatch brings something else to the role. We find him instantly annoying but also interesting. There is a coldness and arrogance that is strangely captivating and makes us want to find out more about him. His detachment from the world around him, his steely gaze, his peculiar personal habits and, of course, his brilliance draw us to the character. The performance is perfectly pitched, clever and ultimately heartbreaking. Yes Sherlock is an annoying dick but one you wouldnt mind going for a pint with.
