10 Reasons You Need To Start Watching Outlander
1. The Highland Culture
The largest character in the series is that of the Highland culture. From the food, to the customs, to the hierarchy of the society, the show does a phenomenal job of giving us a glimpse into that world. People from Scotland have themselves lauded the show for its portrayal of the culture, as well as improving tourism numbers since the release of the show.
Though it is technically considered a fantasy series, being as Claire travels in time via Druid magic, the bulk of the story is about the destruction of the Highland culture at the hands of the English soldiers. It may be a hard pill to swallow if you are English yourself, but it is, unfortunately, a piece of history that still holds ramifications in the relationship between Scotland and England in our modern world.
If you give Outlander a chance you will be far from disappointed. In fact, it'll make you'll wish that you could transport into their world yourself. They make it almost worth living without your phone or modern medicine.
