10 Revived Doctor Who Episodes That Are Perfect For A Rainy Day
10. Love & Monsters
Kicking off the list is Series 2's Love & Monsters which is arguably one of the most underrated - or just plain hated - episodes of the revived series so far. Don't let all the negative vibes that are constantly pointed in its direction sway you, though. It might stick out like a sore thumb in the grand scheme of things but on its own it's actually a pretty good standalone story and it's one which doesn't take itself too seriously, either. To be fair, a story without the Doctor was always going to be hit and miss. As Doctor Who's first experimentation with its now traditional 'Doctor-lite' adventure (basically owing to the fact that the hectic filming schedule means that the lead actors often have to film, or 'double bank', two episodes at once), the distinct lack of Time Lord is more than made up for with its ensemble of glittering guest stars fronted, with gusto, by comedian Peter Kay as the almighty Abzorbaloff. He absorbs people, but the clue's in the name, really. He's joined by Marc Warren and Shirley "Let's all throw books at Myrtle, because she can't feel it!" Henderson who each play their respective part in telling a story which, while unusual, makes for the perfect rainy day viewing. Camille Coduri gets a stint in the spotlight as Rose's long-suffering mother, Jackie, and it's a nice tribute to the fans, too. What more could you want? An actual narrative, probably. But it's cold outside and you're too snuggly to even care.
