10 Rick And Morty Episodes Probably Made Out Of Spite
2. Rickmancing The Stone - S3 E2
This episode comments on the issues surrounding divorce in families and how it can create a divide and affect the children involved. While dealing with their parents' divorce, Summer and Morty are looked after by the ever-irresponsible Rick. Rick takes the duo to a planet where the two go on a therapeutic killing spree.
Morty works through the divorce by killing every mutant and human in sight, while Summer gives in to the rage and accepts the fact that her parents are getting a divorce. As a result, she learns to love. In a way, this storyline is an accurate representation of how a toxic household can affect children. It's hard to take any notice of this subtle message because you're too distracted by the killing ramapge both teens are on.
Roiland and Harmond use the episode to comment on the impact that parents have on their children and how their actions can ultimately shape the way their children tackle life. Thanks to the classic jokey elements, most wouldn't read so profoundly into the episode. Another perfect example of how cleverly the creators can tackle certain societal issues.
