10 Roles Doctor Who Actors Wish They'd Turned Down
4. Tom Baker - Doctor Who
Tom Baker is widely cited as the most popular Doctor of all time and it's still difficult to this day to pinpoint exactly where Tom ends and the Fourth Doctor begins. It's a blurred line for Tom, too, of course, who has revealed that he loved being Doctor Who so much that it effectively ruined his career when he realised that he never wanted to play anyone else. And can you really blame him? After being at the coveted helm of the TARDIS for seven prosperous years, Tom heralded the show into the realms of uncharted success and his subsequent roles - including a jaunt on the stage as Macbeth - were all directly inspired or based on his portrayal of TV's favourite Time Lord. It's what people wanted to see, after all, and he has subsequently made no secret of the fact that Doctor Who was both his maker and breaker in equal measure. When you get to travel through time and space and face off with the universe's most formidable foes (wearing, it has to be said, a rather fetching multi-coloured scarf), though, you just have to take the good with the bad.
