10 Roles Doctor Who Actors Wish They'd Turned Down

3. David Tennant - Gracepoint

David Tennant's career's has gone from strength to strength since he left the wonders of the Whoniverse behind him (the first time) but even the internationally beloved Tenth Doctor has got some unshakeable skeletons in his closet. Unfortunately for him, though, his skeletons are usually recorded on camera and broadcast to the entire nation, so he can't even try to act like they never happened. Still, let's all just pretend that Gracepoint never did, OK? Following Broadchurch's critically acclaimed inception into the UK televisual market, Fox were keen to capitalise on its unprecedented success by launching their very own edition across the pond. The remake, entitled Gracepoint, which was completely different but somehow still exactly the same, went the extra mile in its attempts to distinguish itself as an original show by casting Broadchurch's star David Tennant as its lead actor. Because that seemed like a good idea at the time... apparently. It did mean that David got to experiment with an American accent, though, but, as it turns out, his disastrous dialect got more people talking than the show's ensuing murder mystery. One critic even likened his voice to Batman (and, trust us, that wasn't a compliment!) and some viewers complained that they needed subtitles to understand him. Yikes. Still, he got get some extra US exposure and a guest appearance on David Letterman out of it, so you win some, you lose some. Gracepoint was ultimately axed after just one season anyway because, unlike its UK counterpart, it knows when to quit.
