10 Shocking Deaths That Changed The Walking Dead

2. Shane

The Death: After getting Rick alone in the woods with the intent of killing him, Rick gave up his gun only to draw Shane in and stab him in the heart. How It Changed Things: Shane had been getting dangerous for a while now. He had clearly shown that his own survival trumped the will and morality of the group, losing Rick€™s trust in the process and becoming the series€™s first major human antagonist. In killing such a major character, coupled with Dale€™s death in the episode prior, the series solidified itself as one where no one was safe. And while this episode cemented Shane€™s villainy, it didn't exactly paint the most heroic picture of Rick. Even though Rick was prompted in this specific instance, it seemed that Rick might have just killed him anyways, like he would eventually do to Tomas, Gareth and others. As many remember, Shane didn€™t die in the Season 2 finale, but in the penultimate episode. His death, resurrection and shooting at the hands of Carl was what directly lead to the herd of walkers attacking the farm and driving them away one episode later.
