10 Simpsons Voice Performances That COMPLETELY Changed

3. Bart Simpson

Homer Simpson
Fox

Bart Simpson is voiced by Nancy Cartwright, the same actress behind Ralph Wiggum. Just like Ralph then, Cartwright has struggled to maintain her tone for Bart consistently across the last 30 years.

Unlike Ralph though, there hasn’t been a significant before and after when it comes to Bart. Instead, there’s just been a bit of a hit and miss feel to Bart’s voice in the later seasons. It’s always been very nasally, but Cartwright has struggled to fully maintain it after so many years.

Due to the way episodes are recorded (often several in one block of sessions), you won’t notice Bart’s voice changing in any gradual sense. It’s just that these days, Bart may vary from week to week.

He basically sounds like he’s got a cold, as Cartwright’s voice becomes stuffier and even more whiny as she tries to reach Bart’s tones. It’s very similar to Lisa In You Only Move Twice, when her allergies in Cypress Hill play up and she can no longer taste Marge’s delicious boiled celery.

It’s particularly jarring that Bart flicks between these tones; it’s not like Cartwright has lost classic Bart for good. It all seems to depend on the day in modern seasons.
