10 Smartest Doctor Who Characters

1. Rassilon

Doctor Who Omega
BBC

Founder of Time Lord society, Rassilon was the first Time Lord. Whilst it was along with Omega (and the Other, but we won’t go down that rabbit hole…), Rassilon is the one who Time Lord society hails as their greatest figure.

Rassilon was once a good man, however, years of control and longing for more power drove him mad. It was one of Rassilon’s ideas to create the Web of Time, in order to “purge the universe of irrationality.

Although he strove for power, Rassilon was incredibly wise. Heralded as a hero by the majority of Gallifrey, Rassilon was the founder of the Gallifrey we know within the series. While, like many Time Lords, Rassilon wished to avoid death, he knew the curse of immortality. Their power corrupted them into fighting the war with the Vampires, as well as being involved in the Time War with the Daleks.

Through his followers, Rassilon managed to be resurrected to lead “his children” during the Last Great Time War.

Rassilon originally sought immortality, however Omega convinced him this wouldn’t be the greatest achievement the Gallifreyans could earn. As mentioned in the last entry, Rassilon along with Omega was a solar engineer, and together they discovered a means to travel through time.

Rassilon intelligence could be the greatest in the Whoniverse. Founder of the universe’s greatest civilisation. Time Lord society may be flawed, but nevertheless, they owe this society to a genius.
