A number of music's biggest stars of the time appeared in 1996 Simpsons episode 'Homerpalooza', such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill and Sonic Youth. However, Courtney Love did not feature. The Hole singer was originally slated to appear in the episode, which saw Homer take Bart and Lisa to the Hullabalooza music festival in a bid to broaden their musical horizons. There, Homer becomes a 'freak' in order to entertain festival goers, taking a cannon ball to the gut. Originally, the Simpson dad was going to meet Love, who would say: "Hi Homer! I'm a big fan, Courtney Love." However, the songstress declined the role, and would have been unwelcome anyway, because according to the DVD commentary, another band said that if Love was going to guest star in the episode, they wouldn't. An Entertainment Weekly article later claimed this band was Sonic Youth.
