8. Early Warning Signs, Battles, Attempts To Isolate The Incident

Even if the show doesn't look too deeply into the science of the outbreak, there's got to be some form of quarantine procedure to begin with. How does an entire city of around four million people either flee or turn into a zombie without anybody noticing? Fans want to see the struggle to contain the plague, and in such early stages, rolling the army in seems like a logical step. Still, even though there's got to be some sort of military intervention, it demonstrates the sheer amount of walkers that are going to be required to wipe out the US army forces. The transformation of civilisation into savagery must be shown, even if the creators aren't going to show the first transformation of man into a walker.
