10 Things That Every Doctor Who Fan Is Waiting For

10. The Next Series

As Doctor Who devotees know only too well by now, every new series that graces our screens seems to be over again before it's ever truly begun. That trend continued last year when the Twelfth Doctor took over the TARDIS for his debut series proving once again that time certainly does fly when you're having fun because most fans felt like they blinked and missed it. Perhaps the Weeping Angels were secretly involved. As such, once again Whovians are left to twiddle their thumbs as they find themselves as the reluctant participants of the waiting game. It's a familiar routine by this point. Our year is spent speculating, anticipating and generally self combusting in the build up to our beloved hero's return and then he's here and gone before you can say 'Raxacoricofallapatorius'. It's sad but true. It doesn't mean Doctor Who fans don't appreciate each and every morsel of timey-wimey action they get (well, most of them do anyway!), especially those who lived through the show's cancellation in 1989 - and its subsequent 16 year hiatus - who know better than most not to take the escapades of our titular Time Lord for granted. Waiting for your favourite thing is hard for anyone, though, and it's particularly painstaking for Doctor Who fans because they're always told effectively nothing about what's to come. That serves to makes it more enjoyable when the new series does eventually get here, of course, but it does mean that getting through the preceding months of build up is a somewhat difficult, borderline antagonising, affair. Thankfully, every now and then the BBC will reveal something (a carrot on the end of a stick, as it were) which is guaranteed to create a Whovian frenzy. An episode title, a filming location, a guest star... Something - anything - to reassure us that there's a light at the end of the tunnel... So, that's the current situation for Whovians around the world. Filming on Series 9 is underway in Cardiff but it won't grace our screens until the autumn which means they're forced to reside on the slow path with Madame de Pompadour (though let's hope our Doctor Who journey ends on a happier note than hers did!) until the Twelfth Doctor's anticipated comeback. Is this how time normally passes? Reeeeally slowly. In the right order. Where is a TARDIS when you need one?
