10 Things That Every Doctor Who Fan Is Waiting For
9. A New Showrunner
OK, well this isn't something that every fan is waiting for. In fact, it's actually only a small minority, despite the overriding - and not to mention wholly misleading - impression you might get after a fateful journey into the darkest depths of a Doctor Who message board. (You didn't ask for our advice but here it is anyway... Don't do it. They're scary and intimidating and you probably won't even make it out alive.) Let's just assume for a minute, though, that this tiny proportion of the fandom who are actively caimpainging for a new showrunner actually is the general consensus that they've convinced themselves it is. In that case, Steven Moffat just has to go - and sooner rather than later, please. The main argument for the Moff's long overdue departure generally roots back to the fact that he's ruined Doctor Who and everything it's stood for. There's something about Doctor Who that makes everyone feel like they're a critic. Maybe it's the fact, as our incumbent Time Lord Peter Capaldi himself has acknowledged, that the show feels personal to us all. Each of its fans develops a unique connection with the series and, as such, has a preconception about what the ongoing escapades of its titular Time Lord should entail. That doesn't give anyone the right, though, to suggest that anybody else's preconception is wrong. Steven is one of the lucky few people who has been able to realise his vision as official canon, though, so it probably comes down to bitterness more than anything else. Since Steven Moffat took over the Doctor Who reigns, he has catapulted it into the previously uncharted realms of international success. To date it has a worldwide viewership of over 70 million and that's largely down to the universal hysteria that championed Matt Smith's arrival, and subsequent four year tenure, as the ever popular Eleventh Doctor. And guess what? The Eleventh Doctor was devised by Steven Moffat. That feature-length 50th anniversary special that was simultaneously screened in 94 countries? Steven Moffat. The Earth-shattering revelation that there's been a secret incarnation of the Doctor that nobody even knew about? You guessed it. Steven Moffat! The point is, Doctor Who is far from ruined and, with production on Series 9 currently underway, it looks like Steven's tenure at its helm is far from over, too. If you're waiting for him to be given the boot, it looks like you'll just have to keep on twiddling your thumbs for a little while longer yet. Go paint a picture or something. Haters gonna hate, as they say.
