10 Times Star Trek Hit The Reset Button

1. Star Trek Goes Back To The Beginning (Again)

Star Trek: Discovery's second season was a sharp step up from the dour tone of the first season. While it had been a well-designed show from the beginning, it was sorely lacking in the heart that was a staple part of most of the crews that had come before. Thankfully, the first episode of the second season, Brother, changed all of that with the arrival of Anson Mount and Captain Pike.

Mount is the fourth actor to portray Pike, after Jeffery Hunter, Sean Kenney and Bruce Greenwood, although he already has put his flag firmly in place as, arguably, the best. He brought an adult, caring nature with him (something that had been lacking thanks to the evil Captain Lorca), while experienced enough to keep things light on Starfleet's most downbeat vessel.

The announcement of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds followed a message from Alex Kurtzman, saying that 'the fans have been heard'. This is an extremely important development in the Star Trek franchise. Not only is this a new show, but it is a show born from the wishes of the fan-base. More than that even, it has already been ear-marked as a more optimistic and episodic approach to Star Trek again.

There are those who love Discovery. There are those who love Voyager. There are those who have taken the long road from there to here. Strange New Worlds seems to be a return to the Star Trek of old, offering those who don't love the direction the franchise has taken another outlet. While we are massively optimistic about this - let's hope this entire entry doesn't age badly!
