10 Times The Doctor Wasn't Very 'Doctory'
8. Hell Bent - Saving Clara
One of the largest impacts upon the character of the Doctor is the death and loss of his companions. In the series, we’ve seen the deaths of Katarina, Sara Kingdom and Adric, as well as slightly cheated deaths such as Amy, Rory, Clara and Bill.
But it is the death of Clara that is of interest to this entry. In Face the Raven, Clara makes the mistake of taking the mark from Rigsy, the careless action that results in her death.
This is until, two episodes later, in Hell Bent, where the Doctor tricks the Time Lords into extracting Clara from her death, to share her knowledge of the hybrid.
Once Clara is on Gallifrey, the Twelfth Doctor ‘fatally’ shoots the General and escapes with his recently deceased companion. This action prolongs Clara’s life, and long story short, the episode ends with the Doctor forgetting Clara and her travelling in a diner TARDIS with Ashildr.
Whilst it's already been said that the Doctor will do anything for companions, this was maybe a step too far. As Clara herself says, she was already “gone”, and this should have been something the Doctor mourned and accepted.
Instead he risks the web of time by extracting his companion and also ‘kills’ the current incarnation of the General. Whilst his compassion for Clara is admirable, to shoot the General in order for him to regenerate and brushes his actions off as resulting in Time Lord “man-flu”, seems very careless of the Doctor.
But this isn’t the last of the Twelfth Doctor and Clara on this list…
