10 Times The Lucifer Show Referenced The Comics (And 10 Ways It Totally Ignored Them)

6. "You're Supposed To Be Blond" (Easter Egg)

Anyone familiar with the comics will immediately spot one clear visual difference between the Tom Ellis version and the original David Bowie-inspired drawings. Like many adaptations before and since (Constantine, The Flash, Valkyrie) the typically-blond Lucifer character is portrayed on screen by a dark-haired actor, and fans - predictably - were not pleased.

In response to complaints about Ellis' hair color, the show writers included a quick throwaway line late in the first season. It came in the episode #TeamLucifer, with a Satanic cultist telling the angel "You're supposed to be blond," and Lucifer simply responding "Yes. I get that a lot."

The Lucifer of the comics has only gotten more blond over the years, and is looking more like David Bowie than ever lately, and it's nice that the show at least made a casual mention of the discrepancy while the character is being represented on screen by a dark-haired actor.
