10 Times The Worlds Of Doctor Who And EastEnders Collided

5. Jo Joyner

Jo Joyner appeared in the 2005 Series 1 finale as the loveable Lynda - it's Lynda with a Y, just in case you were wondering - who was one of the Big Brother contestants onboard the Game Station in the year 200,100. Her stint in the series was destined to be short but sweet, however, as she was ultimately killed by a Dalek in what is widely regarded to be one of the most cruelly executed death scenes in Doctor Who history. Still, it was fun while it lasted, though, and the Ninth Doctor took a particular liking to her, too. In fact, there's probably a fan fiction series out there in which she survived and joined him in the TARDIS for adventures anew, because that's just how the Doctor Who fandom rolls. Cut to one year later, in June 2006, when Jo was wasting no time in getting tongues wagging by taking on the role of gusty businesswoman Tanya Branning in EastEnders. As with most characters in the soap, she's all about her "faaaaamily" which meant that she found it particularly difficult to come to terms with the fact that her husband had been having an affair with his son's wife. The truth was revealed - to 14 million viewers, no less - in 2006 on Christmas Day which is seemingly as good a time as any for a family to be ripped apart... well, as far as EastEnders is concerned, at least! She responded by bonking his brother, Jack, and conspiring to bury her dirty, cheating husband alive and things escalated rather quickly for Tanya after that. Her subsequent storylines have seen her opening up her own salon, giving birth, getting remarried, fighting cervical cancer and somehow finding the time to go to jail for a time she didn't commit along the way. As it turns out, maybe she would've been better off staying in the Big Brother house after all.
