10 TV Plot Twists EVERYONE Guessed

7. Castiel Stops The Apocalypse - Supernatural

Game of Thrones
The CW

Everyone's favourite trench coat-wearing angel Castiel made his first appearance on Supernatural during the show's fourth season.

Originally a devout servant of Heaven, Castiel followed his fellow angels in their plot to unleash the apocalypse on Earth right up until the last moment.

Later that same season, when it looks like all hope is lost for the Winchesters and humanity at large, Castiel betrays his winged brothers and prevents the end of the world. He then lets Sam and Dean escape whilst holding back the Archangel Raphael, sacrificing himself in the process.

Sometimes you can just tell when a character is popular. Something about their mannerisms or their look just screams "people like me" and Castiel was one of those characters.

Fans knew that wouldn't stay a bad guy for long, so very few viewers were left surprised when he saved the day. Not only that, but they welcomed his turn with open arms.

This was absolutely the right call on behalf of the show's producers, as the fallen angel went on to become a series regular, a fan favourite, and the subject of many many fan fictions about him and Dean.
