10 TV Shows That Have Already Been Cancelled In 2021

1. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The eighth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will be the final series of the show. It was previously given new life when it was picked up by NBC, after Fox axed it after five years. Now, the final ten episodes will begin airing in 2021.

The show was affected by both the pandemic and the 2020 murder of George Floyd. Andy Samberg spoke to People magazine, stating:

We're taking a step back, and the writers are all rethinking how we're going to move forward, as well as the cast. We're all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about.

Terry Crews revealed that four episodes of the series had been locked and ready to film. After the Black Lives Matter movement and protests, these scripts were thrown in the bin as showrunner Dan Goor rethought the direction of the season.

The show has faced criticism for its sanitised depiction of police officers. In the second episode of the first season, police brutality is made light of, in a joke that has not aged well. However, overall Brooklyn Nine-Nine has received positive feedback for its storylines and characters, most notably Captain Raymond Holt and Officer Rosa Diaz, both of whom are out members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
