10 TV Shows That Improved Upon The Source Material
1. Killing Eve
Though there's a lot of justified scorn for how it ended, BBC's Killing Eve remains one of the most acclaimed and feted thriller shows of the last decade.
Adapted from Luke Jennings' Villanelle series of novels, the masterstroke of the TV series was in hiring Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge as head writer for the first season, before passing the baton to Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman).
The pair brought a prickly, spiky - and yes, feminist - voice to the TV show rather lacking in the male-penned novels, while the central performances from Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh added a dimensionality and clarity to Villanelle and Eve that the books just couldn't.
The books, while good, feel pallid compared to the striking, vibrant, punchy TV show, which nails a far more fluid, exciting tone courtesy of Waller-Bridge's contributions in particular.
All in all, the TV series is just a more sophisticated and satisfying enterprise - until we get to season four, anyway.
