10 TV Shows That Killed Off Their Biggest Stars

7. Roseanne Barr - Roseanne/The Conners

For ten seasons, Roseanne Barr played the lead role in the comedy-drama Roseanne, a show she co-created that followed the working class Conner family and their drama.

A bossy, stern but loyal and loving wife and mother, Roseanne Conner served as the show's protagonist and won audiences over with her relatability and flawed but human nature.

The show ended after season nine all the way back in 1997, but was revived for an unprecedented tenth season in 2018, with all the original cast returning to their iconic roles.

Though season ten ended up be a massive success for ABC Studios, things hit a snag when Roseanne Barr posted a series of racist Tweets about a government official. Due to the backlash, the studio had to let Barr go, but kept the show going as a spin-off entitled The Conners.

In The Conners, it's revealed that Roseanne has died off screen, cementing the fact that Barr was done with the show.

Funnily enough, this wasn't the first time the show had killed off its biggest star, as at the end of season nine it was revealed that family patriarch Dan Conner (John Goodman) had passed away after a heart attack. This ending, however, was forgotten about for the revival, and Goodman now serves as the show's lead.
