10 TV Shows That Killed Off Unhappy Actors
1. John Amos - Good Times
For three seasons, John Amos delighted audiences with his portrayal of the no-nonsense family patriarch James Evan Sr. Amos said he wanted to take the role because he was interested in doing a show about a poor African-American family beating the odds. However, he didn't enjoy the humour of the show, which he said undermined the essence and themes of the show.
But his troubles didn't stop there. Amos argued that the writers didn't understand what life was actually like for the African-American family and disagreed with the way his on-screen son was portrayed. His disagreements with creator Norman Lear became too much for the show's success, and Lear even went as far as to say that Amos had become a "distraction", which Amos agreed with.
Because of his open objection the show and the way it was run, Amos was fired after the third season and James Sr perished in a car accident in the premier of Season Four. The show lasted three seasons without him, unchanged by his previous objections, but lacking his moral and warm presence that his fans had come to love.
