10 TV Shows That Switched Main Characters

2. Two And A Half Men

Homeland TV Show
CBS

Much loved sitcom Two and a Half Men first aired in 2003 and would go on for twelve seasons. Initially hollowing Charlie Harper (played by Charlie Sheen), a very wealthy jingle writer living the high life in Malibu, and his more unfortunate brother, Alan, who is forced to move in with Charlie following his divorce.

The duo's hijinks would bring a tear to your eye and laughter to your side, supported by a terrific cast of recurring characters and guest appearances. All good things must come to an end though.

Charlie Sheen has long been a figure of notoriety in Hollywood, and this notoriety caught up to him. During the filming of season eight, Sheen entered a drug rehabilitation facility three times in the space of a year, leading show-runners to eventually give up on the iconic actor and terminate his contract before season nine. Sheen made many public appearances slating those in charge as well as some of the cast and even entered a legal battle with Warner Bros.

Charlie Harper was killed in an accident off-screen, and so wealthy benefactor Walden Schmidt (played by Ashton Kutcher would purchase the house and continue to allow Alan to live with there to maintain as much continuity as possible. It didn't matter though, as viewership and ratings plummeted.
