10 TV Sitcom Stars Who Couldn't Break The Movies
1. Ed Helms
On the surface, Ed Helms has had a respectable, even enviable Hollywood career. He has featured in a successful franchise, headlined a few comedies of moderate success, and has lent his voice to some decent family fare. Not bad at all.
A closer look at his career tells a different story, though. Towards the end of The Office (U.S) it was patently clear that Helms was being groomed as a big star. He was essentially the main character for much of the last two series, which unfortunately coincided with two of the show’s worst years.
Following The Office, he starred in Vacation, which didn’t set the world alight or kick off the franchise the studio was hoping for. He has The Hangover under his belt, but no one’s really thinking about Ed Helms when they think about The Hangover.
His leading man days in big movies appear to be dwindling, and while he’s still appearing in the likes of Tag, this isn’t what the business hoped for out of Helms - mediocre fare turning a moderate profit. Still, there are worse ways to make a living.
