5. Why is Phyllis Such An A-hole? And Why Does No One Besides Angela Call Her Out on It?
Phyllis Lapin-Vance is supposed to be the matronly, soft-spoken representation of all that is comforting about the office environment. And yet, she is routinely one of the rudest, most self-important, browbeating members of the sales team. Simply because she says mean things in a soft voice, she apparently gets a free pass. Here is a rundown of some of the things Phyllis has done to earn the ire of her coworkers: She copies every minute detail of Pam's wedding plans, which she ultimately cancels when she breaks it off with Roy, to use for her own nuptials. She makes no apologies for this. She "innocently" (though rather gleefully) insists Pam is cheating on her fiancé with Jim in Season 2. When it's announced that Jim and Pam are officially dating, Phyllis passive-aggressively tells Pam that she has to randomly assign new clients to the sales staff, not to give privilege to "who you're sleeping with that week." She invites Pam and Jim to a double date with her and Bob (for no apparent reason) only to leave halfway through dinner to have sex in the handicap restroom, awkwardly returning all sweaty and gluttonous. In the Season 6 episode New Leads, she claims herself and the sales staff to be the only employees of consequence, calling Michael "numb nuts" and stating anyone who has a problem with her attitude should leave, and that all others could easily be replaced. She purposefully goes to bars wearing low-cut dresses so that men will hit on her, prompting Bob Vance to beat the crap out of them. AND NO ONE BESIDES ANGELA EVER SAYS ANYTHING TO HER!
