10 Underrated TV Shows You Need To Start Watching

3. Copenhagen Cowboy

Nicolas Winding Refn's new crime-noir series Copenhagen Cowboy was quietly released on Netflix at the start of the year with a minimal marketing push, and just like Refn's previous Amazon series Too Old to Die Young, it received wildly polarising reviews due to its glacial pacing and surreal style.

Yet for fans of Refn, Copenhagen Cowboy was sublime - another gloriously neon-splashed, Lynchian nightmare which dared to challenge and at times infuriate audiences rather than simply deliver comfortable, undemanding streaming Content you can digest while doing your laundry.

Unsurprisingly, the show failed to break into Netflix's Top 10 most-watched TV series even on release week, and outside of the fandom's fervent discussions, Copenhagen Cowboy more-or-less fell straight into the abyss.

Though Refn has stated that he hopes to make a second season and already has a story treatment written, it's looking tremendously unlikely without the show being suddenly discovered by the masses and propelled to greater viewership.

While the famously trigger-happy Netflix hasn't officially cancelled the series yet, they're most likely viewing it as a one-off mini-series and so don't feel especially compelled to announce that it won't be coming back.

We can hope for season two, but without a surge in demand it's far more probable that Refn's next series will need to be shopped to yet another streamer.
