5. Brian's Virtual Life - Family Guy

Much more famous for its sarcastic, ironic tone, Family Guy episode 'Brian Wallows And Peter's Swallows' is perhaps the only episode of the show with a real tear-jerker of an ending. Brian becomes depressed with his love-life, and begins playing virtual reality games and going to rock concerts with Peter and the gang, only to end up more depressed at the sight of so many couples. He's caught drink-driving by Joe, and ordered to do community service, where he meets a nagging, elderly woman Pearl. After discovering she was an incredible opera singer, and that she's remained a recluse for thirty years, he convinces her to leave her house, where she's immediately knocked down by a car. And it's then, in the final moments of the episode that the emotional stuff happens; he reveals that he bought the virtual reality game at the rock concert. Together they spend Pearl's last moments in the game, having the life that they never had, before she dies, and leaves him alone again.
