10 Unlikely Characters Who'd Be Perfect For Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

1. Robert April

Star Trek Kelsey Grammar
Paramount

Robert April is the original captain of the Enterprise, the one who Pike inherited the ship from. However, he is the one captain who has never appeared in live action. We only know him through his appearance on the animated series and a reference or two on screen. For instance, Discovery has established that he's one of the most decorated officers in Starfleet history.

As reasonable as it is to expect to see Kirk in a recurring role as the future Enterprise captain it would make just as much sense to see April. It's fair to assume that he and Pike would know each other, it's even possible that Pike served under him.

With Strange New Worlds, Commodore April would be right in the middle of his twenty year service as an ambassador at large. This would put him in a position where he could request the Enterprise for important diplomatic missions. As a commodore he would also have the authority to give Pike orders and assignments.

He's a character who has been overlooked a lot over the many years of Trek. While there have been four Pikes there has only ever been the one animated portrayal of April(voiced by Scotty himself, James Doohan). While it seems as if the likelihood of his appearing is higher than some of the other characters on the list, considering the track record it's still quite a long shot.

However, should he actually appear there is the unique possibility that he and a young Kirk could appear in the same episode and all three Enterprise captains could find themselves on the bridge together.
