Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last decade, then I’m sure you would have heard of Game of Thrones. And, considering the show’s global success, critical acclaim and awards wins (including a record-breaking four Emmy wins for Outstanding Drama Series), it would be inevitable that a follow-up would happen in some shape or form.

Originally, after the show’s end last year, there were apparently five (yes, that’s right, five) spin-off series planned, however, it has now been confirmed that some of them definitely won’t be going ahead.

However, one that definitely will be going ahead is House of the Dragon, a prequel series, set before the events of the show. It will centre on “the beginning of the end” for Targaryen family (one of the key houses from the parent show) and will be adapted from George R. R. Martin’s prequel book, Fire and Blood.

Showrunners for the series will be Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, the latter of which was an acclaimed director on the original show, winning an Emmy for his work on the brilliant “Battle of the Bastards” episode.

Spin-offs are often notoriously hard to be successful (there are a few exceptions, including Breaking Bad’s Better Call Saul), but hopefully, Condal and Sapochnik can get this one right. If they do, then maybe it could make up for that disappointing final season of Game of Thrones.
