Brick Like Me (the Lego episode) was terrific, and it only aired last season. Proof that when they push themselves, The Simpsons team can still produce quality television episodes. Recent seasons have seen far too many "safe" episodes, and in a way it makes sense and it keeps the show on air. Everyones's happy. Everyone except for the fans who yearn for out-of-the box episodes like Brick Like Me. This year saw The Simpsons venture into two crossover episodes. The family appeared in the Family Guy Season 13 premiere, Simpsons Guy (disappointing) and also hosted the Futurama crew in their own episode this season, Simpsonorama (a bit stronger). These episodes leave a lot to be desired, but at least the show tried something new and at the very least these efforts were on par with the other current episodes, so no real harm was done by giving it a go. With so many tired plots rehashed, it'd be interesting to see The Simpsons take a few notes from a show like Community, which strives to deliver sitcom episodes that go against the grain of what is generally considered "safe" in the genre. Who wouldn't love more episodes in the vein of Brick Like Me?
