10 Weirdest Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes
1. Doublemeat Palace (Season 6, Episode 12)
In this episode, Buffy gets a job at a fast-food restaurant, and it’s certainly not what she expected it to be.
For one thing, her co-workers behave rather strangely. A lot of them appear to be quite braindead and her boss is a bit of a creep. The music also tells the audience something definitely isn’t right at the Doublemeat Palace.
And this unpleasant mood becomes even more unsettling when Buffy finds a severed finger in the meatgrinder.
She returns at night to investigate further and discovers her boss’s severed foot. The villain of the episode is then revealed to be one of the restaurant’s regular customers – a little old lady who’s actually a demon. A worm-like lamprey sprouts from the top of her head and tries to eat Buffy before Willow turns up and kills the lamprey by forcing it into the meat grinder.
This final conflict is both terrifying and completely ridiculous – the old lady is the last person you’d suspect and her transformation comes out of nowhere. And the entire episode carries this sweaty, claustrophobic atmosphere as most of it is set inside the Doublemeat Palace.
It’s a memorable story but not necessarily a good one. The whole thing is peculiar and no other episode leaves you feeling so baffled.
