6. Tara Thornton - True Blood Tara Thornton is the mouthy and downright rude alcoholic best friend of Sookie Stackhouse on the True Blood television series. Originally a very minor character in the book series, Alan Ball felt it right to make Tara the center of her own story line and emphasize the best friend dynamic between her and Sookie. In a few short seasons, Tara has quit almost every job she's had, drank more tequila than her flamboyant cousin Lafyette and even fled town to become a lesbian MMA fighter. Her incessant complaining about her terrible childhood and rather intense desire to keep people away creates a black hole of enjoyability each week. One of the happiest moment of the series was when she was shot in the head; sadly, this moment was rendered pointless after she was turned into a vampire in an attempt to prolong the agony of her existence on the television program.
