5. Intro To Felt Surrogacy

Intro To Felt Surrogacy, more commonly known as the puppet episode, is one of the most infamous outings this show has ever created. While breaking out of live-action has been proven to work for Community before - most notably in Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas - this one felt a little too forced and lifeless, like the puppets themselves.

The episode's narrative followed the study group as they were caught in a bout of awkward tension. To try and alleviate this, the Dean made them recount the events leading up to this conflict using therapy puppets. This translated to us seeing some admittedly amusing muppet-like designs of the cast as they went on a hot air balloon adventure.

It's safe to say that no one was expecting this one, and the uncanniness of the puppets took a lot of fans off guard. The joke got old pretty quickly, and soon you were stuck in a limited medium with very little charm. Plus, the show had plenty of experience with bad green-screen effects, but this one took the cake, as there were way too many moments where the VFX curtain was drawn wide.

It was a brave choice, but one that shouldn't have been made in the first place.
