6. Trans-Fat
Tackling pervasive social issues in comedy cartoons is hardly new to anyone. In fact, the medium is one of the best places to talk about certain subjects with a nice sense of humour. But, when it comes to Family Guy, they aren't always the best at subtlety, and this is one such example.
"Trans-Fat" shows as Peter is mistakenly identified as transgender at a baseball game. Instead of correcting this, he rolls with it because it seems to grant him social benefits. However, after falling into a coma, he awakens to find that he's had gender reassignment surgery, becoming a biological woman.
As you might be able to tell, this one ruffled many peoples feathers, and rightly so. The episode is filled from top to bottom with transphobic jokes, and while it does attempt to deliver a strong message towards the end, it feels hypocritical as the show spent so much time making fun of the people it then tried to validate.
You can't have your cake and eat it too, but that's what Family Guy tried to do in this one.
