10 Worst TV Villains Of The Last 10 Years

6. Bill Compton - True Blood

Euron Game of Thrones
HBO

There’s plenty of scope for debate as to when things really started to go downhill for True Blood, but a key misstep was the moment the show decided to place Bill Compton as the main villain in seasons five and six. While Bill had been a brooding and mysterious (if slightly boring) figure up to this point, as a baddie he was overpowered to the point of being ludicrous, and was symptomatic of the worst mistake of the show’s latter years: adding far too much lore.

From being a sexy swampy vampire saga, True Blood became increasingly heavy on the hard fantasy side of things. Through a convoluted series of events, Bill became the most powerful vampire in creation, able to withstand wooden stakes, enter houses at will, and eventually walk in daylight.

What did he do with all these abilities? Well, nothing much. He said some cruel things to Sookie, commanded a few acolytes, and ultimately gained redemption just in time for the finale. It’s all well and good making your villain a credible threat, but they’ve got to be actually threatening to do something.
