11 Amazing Stories That Define Doctor Who - A 49 Year Retrospective

7. Remembrance Of The Daleks

Much like the Ninth Doctor era, the Seventh Doctor€™s time on the show was laden with duff episodes that fans were willing to overlook in favour of the fact that the programme was still alive and kicking. And once again, the redemption? A superb Dalek adventure that outclasses just about every competitor that can be remembered from the entire final era of the programme. Remembrance reprised the Dalek civil war arc that was alluded to in both the Fifth Doctor€™s Resurrection and the Sixth Doctor€™s Revelation, taking it to a new level as the tin-can foes took their battles to the streets of 1970s London. The Doctor and Ace were tasked with both avoiding the crossfire and preventing the Dalek leader Davros from gaining the power of the Hand Of Omega, a challenge not made easy by the emergence of the rather beautiful Special Weapons Dalek onto the scene late in the day. I won€™t deny that Remembrance has its fair share of faults, including weak pacing and a rather €˜been there, done that€™ feeling pervading the storyline. However, these shortcomings are more than compensated for by some of the best CGI and cliffhangers the classic era gave us, brilliant performances from McCoy and Sophie Aldred and so many other great elements that again provide a solid representation and defining of what Who strives to do and so often succeeds in its execution.
