11 Most Anticipated Comic Book TV Shows Coming In 2018

1. Daredevil Season 3

Matt Murdock The Defenders Reborn
Netflix

While there isn't a firm release date in mind, the hotly anticipated third season of Daredevil should be filling the final third of Marvel's Netflix series this year, releasing in the winter and not the summer.

The Defenders was... mixed, to say the least, but despite its flaws it did leave Matt Murdock in a very interesting place. Presumed dead after his fight with Elektra, it later transpires that the lawyer is alive and well, recovering under the watchful eye of what can only be his mother, Maggie Murdock. The show's second season certainly seemed to indicate that it was taking inspiration from Born Again, starting with Wilson Fisk's vow to destroy Murdock and ending with Maggie watching over Matt in a nearby church come The Defenders.

If that is indeed the case, and we are getting an adaptation of Born Again for the third season, then that makes 2018 an interesting year for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Given it's oft considered to be one of the finest Marvel comics ever - and one of the finest the medium's ever seen at that - it's a tricky one to tackle.

If anyone's up for the task however, it's the team behind Daredevil. With Drew Goddard consulting and Erik Oleson joining along for the ride, it's looking increasingly like that 2018 will be the perfect reply to last year, signing it all off with the red and blue hue of Marvel's finest ever comic.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
