12 Characters Once Upon A Time Wants You To Forget About

3. Greg Mendell

Greg Mendell arrived in Storybrooke during season two as an outsider who just happened to see Rumple performing magic on the drive in before crashing in the process. Choosing to stay despite everyone's best efforts to suggest he leave, it's later revealed that Greg had found himself in Storybrooke as a child alongside his father when the town appeared out of nowhere. Regina's maternal desires inadvertently caused her to scare off Greg's father when he walked in on Regina attempting to have him arrested leaving town so that she could keep Greg. After a frantic car chase in which Greg's father found himself arrested by Sheriff Graham and Greg on the outside of town, free from Regina, Greg was left an orphan, with no one in the outside world willing to believe that his father had been trapped in an imaginary town. Finally returning to Storybrooke as an adult to learn what happened to his father -- and with a burning hatred of all things magical -- Regina ultimately throws it in Greg's face that she killed him in cold blood. It's a shockingly cruel moment, and the show's decision to position Greg as the villain and Regina as the hero in their face-off is bizarre. Of all the characters throughout the series, Greg's beef with Regina was, perhaps, the most legitimate, having been robbed of a normal life and of his father simply for being an innocent child. But as the series firmly wants its audience to root for Regina, Greg's conflict was trivialized and he was quickly killed off in the season premiere of season three without Regina ever having to truly come to terms with what she did.
