7. First Day On The Job
20th June 2009 is an iconic date in Doctor Who history as it was the first day of principal photography on Matt Smith's debut series as the Eleventh Doctor. The cast and crew kick started the proceedings by journeying to Southerndown Beach which is best known in the Whoniverse as Dårlig Ulv-Stranden. It was far from Doomsday this time round, though, as it was the start of a bright and shining new era in the TARDIS. In the picture above, and the others that surfaced in the press, fans got their first glimpse of the bow tie-wearing next Doctor in action as well as his new companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and his updated TARDIS exterior, complete with St John's Ambulance sticker which returned after more than 40 years. Lots of excitement ensued and that's without even mentioning the return of Alex Kingston as River Song who was also spotted on location. Spoilers, sweetie! The scene being filmed was for Series 5's The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone two-parter.
