7. Maggie Gyllenhaal - The Honourable Woman
You know her from: The Dark Knight (2008), Donnie Darko (2001), The Secretary (2002) The BBC is gearing up another spy thriller, this time set in the modern day, with more of an international political edge. Leading the cast of The Honourable Woman is the versatile Maggie Gyllenhaal, whose career has seen her play both sides of the industry coin. She made her name in independent successes such as The Secretary and Donnie Darko, which also launched the career of her brother Jake Gyllenhaal, but has also lent her gravitas to much bigger studio productions like the financially successful Batman sequel: The Dark Knight. In The Honourable Woman, Gyllenhaal plays Nessa Stein, a driven businesswoman who is controversially appointed to the peerage. She repurposes her father's Zionist arms company to laying data cable networks between Israel and the West Bank, alerting the attentions of MI6 and their agent, Hugh Hayden-Hoyle, played by Stephen Rea. The Honourable Woman is written and directed by Hugo Blink and will air on BBC Two in the UK, and SundanceTV in the US.
