It’s a shame people struggle to look beyond the MCU when it comes to on-screen adaptations of the Avengers, because the animated shows were by all accounts excellent.

Avengers Assemble tells the story of the reformation of the Avengers. The original team had disbanded over their individual differences and only Tony was even keeping up to date with his former colleagues. As you would expect, the world-ending threats soon begin to arrive and the Avengers are forced to assemble.

Fast forward to Season 4 and the showrunners decided to try one of the bravest things you possibly can as a comic book show, and that’s to do a version of Secret Wars. And yeah, sure, they didn’t do an exact adaptation of the iconic arc, but what we got was still brilliant.

The main villain standing opposite Captain America and co. is the Beyonder. A cosmic entity with the power to change and merge entire realities. His powers extend across space and time, giving him the ability to do whatever he wants.

While not quite the Beyonders who initiate the events of Secret Wars in the comics, he provides a strange-in-a-good-way antagonist to the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes who must regroup and fight for survival in the bizarre new world created by the Beyonder.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
