12 Saddest Bojack Horseman Episodes
4. Time's Arrow - S4E11
After BoJack found out that his mother had been slipping pills into Hollyhock's coffee, he took her to the dingiest, grottiest retirement home he could find in his fury. On the way however, Beatrice's mind wandered back to her childhood, as we were finally told the story of Henrietta.
She had a tough childhood after the death of her brother, with her father blaming her mother and the lobotomy he forced her to have for Beatrice getting ill, and tried to marry his only daughter off to Corbin Creamerman just because it would be good for business.
Her marriage, something she rushed in to as a rebellion of sorts against the lifestyle she was forced into, was even worse than her childhood. She never truly loved Butterscotch, as they both began to resent their little baby BoJack when he hadn't actually done anything wrong.
When Butterscotch eventually got their maid Henrietta pregnant, Beatrice showed her true feelings towards the family that she never wanted. She offered to pay for Henrietta's nursing tuition so long as she gave up the baby Hollyhock, and pleaded with her not to throw her life away like she did. This was even more of a window into her past and the reason she has such a terrible relationship with BoJack, but before the episode is over the two share a genuinely touching moment when she finally recognises her son.
