12 TV Shows You Won't Believe Are 10 Years Old In 2015

3. The Office: An American Workplace

When Ricky Gervais starred in the original British series of The Office in the early 2000s, few would have predicted that the show would prove to be a major US hit once it was adapted for over-the-Pond audiences - but between 2005 and 2013 Americans embraced the sitcom based on the principle of a "mockumentary". With stars such as Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Ed Helms and Jenna Fischer depicting the everyday lives of employees at the Scranton, Pennsylvannia, branch of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, a single-camera follows them around as they behave inappropriately and suffer regular personality clashes within the workplace. Nine seasons and 201 episodes later, The Office: An American Workplace dominated NBC's ratings for an extended period, as well as claiming four Primetime Emmy Awards, and was even chosen to follow Super Bowl XLIII in the much-coveted post-game slot. The original "mockumentary", single-camera concept was thought-up by Gervais and Stephen Merchant for the BBC series of the Office and captivated viewers due to this fresh and innovative approach to sitcom, yet the exported version proved to be an even bigger success in the US. It just goes to show, British humour can conquer America after all...
