13 CW Actors Who Deserve An Emmy Nomination
9. Candice Patton - The Flash
Candice Patton has always been one of The Flash's most under-used assets, but that hasn't stopped the star from shining on many occasions throughout the show's five-year tenure.
However, as Season 5 saw the writers give her character, Iris West-Allen, some long overdue strong material, the Scarlet Speedster's leading lady was finally presented with the opportunity to steal the show that she had been waiting for - and she wasted no time doing just that.
Turning in a number of compelling performances throughout the season, Patton spotlighted how Iris was struggling to comprehend some home truths from her time-travelling daughter Nora, forcing us to question the character while rooting for her at the same time. Moreover, she highlighted how Iris herself was struggling with the duality of her identity, unable to figure out how she will go on to become this very different person in the future.
Through these emotional scenes, Patton proved that she's more than equipped to play an increased role in the show (more Iris please, Flash). However, she saved her best performance for last.
With her voice breaking and tears in her eyes, Iris pleaded for Nora to save herself from imminent death in the season finale and, through Patton's emotional outing, we felt every ounce of desperation that she was feeling. The passionate turn marked a new high for the veteran actress, and really highlighted what she is truly capable when given more powerful material.
