Reece Shearsmith is a comedian and actor who is perhaps most famous for his role in The League of Gentlemen. He has also gained significant renown in recent years for creating and starring in the acclaimed drama, Inside No. 9.

Shearsmith has already appeared in Doctor Who, playing Doctor Rasmussen in the confusing mess that was Sleep No More (though he was arguably the best thing about the episode). But this is not his only Who role - he also briefly played Patrick Troughton, the Second Doctor, in An Adventure In Space And Time. I guess you could argue he has technically already portrayed The Doctor, from a certain point of view…

Reece definitely has the chops, both comic and dramatic, to pull off the role, so perhaps it’s no surprise he always manages to sneak onto the list of rumoured Doctors. He’s also a screenwriter, and could give us the first episode penned by a Doctor. Would he actually want the role? We aren’t sure, but the man is a fan of the show and a close friend of past writers, so you never know.
