15 Best TV Shows Of The Last 25 Years

9. Game of Thrones (2011-present)

Game Of Thrones Arya Glare Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue is pervasive. Everything is going on, including incest, war, battles of every kind and life-changing journeys. This is a truly grand show. Of course, it has the elements I crave, including the fantasy/mystery/drama factor, but it's also based on a series of long and complex books (which I have not read, I just don't want to know), which is a huge advantage. The characters are completely not realistic; everyone is stunningly beautiful and naked, which is awesome. There are a lot of amazing sex scenes in this show, contrasted by brutal death scenes. It's rare to see so much sex without it seeming overbearing (Rome, The Tudors). The stories are what matter here, and the amazing cast. Now, I will add something controversial perhaps, but I'm not a fan of the acting. Don't get me wrong - there are a few dynamite exceptions (Peter D., Gwendoline, Natalie D.), but as a whole, the acting is not the highlight. The images are, the vision, the effects, the power plays. And what a third season, such a great comeback from that awful second one. I look forward to the fourth season wearily, as the second season was such a great disappointment. Even in the third season, which I loved, there were some plot lines I fast forwarded (the torture story line was atrocious). Team Tyrion all the way!

Born in Israel, but raised partly in the UK, Shira is rather an odd duck. She will get in your face with her opinion, but will then be super polite to the waitress serving her a cocktail, no matter how bad the service is. Movies are her passion, along with good TV, music, and Shakespeare. She loves to sing and goes to karaoke a lot, too. She will do anything creative, and will resort to finger painting if necessary. Shira also, apparently, enjoys writing about herself in third person, which is weird. But she just finished her first Fantasy novel, and it's not about her, so that's ok. Shira is very glad to be a part of WhatCulture!
