15 Sci-fi TV Shows That Ended Too Soon
8. Amazing Stories
The Beginning:
Amazing Stories couldn’t have been more eighties if it had bounced onto screens astride a Pogo Ball, with a boom box on its shoulders blaring out Blue Monday – chugging on a Tab Cola.
Devised by Steven Spielberg, the intention was to ape the ‘Berg’s beloved Twilight Zone and give audiences a fresh, new anthology series. The result was a show that was packed with memorable episodes – ‘The Mission’ was an Emmy-snatching treat and Scorsese’s ‘Mirror, Mirror’ remains a highpoint – and was successful in getting the family sat on the sofa together, being scared, excited and thrilled on a regular basis.
The End:
Annoyingly, Amazing Stories didn’t attract massive audiences so ended in 1987 – after just two seasons.
It’s not all doom and gloom, though, as along with being something of an inspiration after it was cancelled – family favourite Batteries Not Included derived from an Amazing Stories episode treatment and LucasArts sci-fi adventure, The Dig, was inspired by the series – Hannibal maestro Brian Fuller is currently developing a reboot as you read these very words.
