15 Star Trek Deaths That Didn't Last

The most successful return of Denise Crosby to Star Trek was thanks to the death of Tasha Yar.

Killed off by the oil slick known as Armus, fans thought she'd be right back at it after a few hypos from Doctor Crusher but it wasn't to be.

The series moved on and aside from a reference to her in The Measure of a Man it looked like Tasha was gone for good. But not so.

The now-legendary appearance of the Enterprise-C into the TNG time period skews everything. The ship didn't save a Klingon outpost from Romulan attack and has led to the Federation and Klingons still being at war. Worf is, as you would expect, no longer on the Enterprise-D, and in his place is Tasha. Surprisingly, it's probably Yar's most expressive appearance and utilises the opportunity perfectly in what is one of the show's very finest hours.

Ultimately choosing to return with the crew of the Enterprise-C, Yar looks to make an impact on history rather than the "empty" death Guinan tells her about. Crosby would return thanks to this alternative timeline as Commander Sela the following year and would manage a further guest slot as Tasha Yar during the pre-Farpoint flashbacks of All Good Things...

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
